Shusui was born as the son of Ishikawa Tomijiro in Ohdate city of Akita
Prefecture.
Tomijiro was a painter of the Kano school.
When Shusui was 17 years old, he became a pupil of Nishinomiya Arikazu,
the Shijo style painter in Tokyo.
Then, Shusui became a pupil of Takahashi Kohko who was good at painting
historical pictures.
Furthermore, Shusui studied painting under Ikegami Shuho who was good at
painting flowers & birds, and Sansui landscape pictures.
In 1956, he died at his hometown. |

| Description |
This scroll was painted in February of 1926. (The last year of the Taisho
era.)
There are a few slight spots and stains.
And paints are slightly peeled off.
Although, the condition of this scroll is good.
The motif is a phoenix is on the Japanese pine tree (Matsu tree).
It is painted very vividly and powerfully.
